A Little More About IFS, Mayra’s New Certification

Mayra just became certified in a new therapy approach called Internal Family Systems, or IFS for short. It’s based on the idea that the mind is made up of different "parts," each with its own unique characteristics and functions. These parts can be thought of as sub-personalities or aspects of oneself. The main goal of IFS is to help clients achieve a state of inner harmony and integration by understanding and working with their different internal parts. It can be particularly beneficial for addressing a wide range of psychological issues, from trauma and anxiety to relationship difficulties and personal growth challenges. IFS also helps us understand others as well as ourselves better.

What makes IFS unique is its conceptualization of the mind and its therapeutic approach. The brain is viewed as consisting of multiple “selves” or parts each having its own emotions, beliefs, and motivations. This strays from the typical therapy approach of focusing on one's singular ego or self. It  also tends to be a more self-guided practice, with the therapist taking a more passive role in helping the client access and strengthen their Self, giving full control to the client to search as deep in their mind as they’re comfortable with.

Overall, IFS aims to help individuals achieve a deeper understanding of themselves, heal emotional wounds, and integrate their internal parts in order to live more authentically. If you think IFS might be the right approach for you, book your free consultation with Mayra to see how she can help!
